Huliganov’s Russia #10/11 – What friends we had…

Original playout date: 30 December 2007
Duration: 8:00

This episode commemorates the spirit of the people of St Petersburg, their heroism at the time of the blockade, a great genocidal crime committed by Germans and Finns on the people of Leningrad, and the friendliness of people living there today. Features the family and friends I found there that I didn’t even realise I had. In the words of Joel: “We never knew what friends we had, until we came to Leningrad.”

This is the penultimate series, there is an error in the titling at the start saying part nine, when it is part ten of eleven. I didn’t want to recode the film over that small item as nothing is perfect, but I thought I’d better point it out in case anyone is confused.”

Be clear about it, Russophobes, without the sacrifice of the people of this city and other similar cities in Russia, we would not have been able to beat the Nazis.

The footage around the lines “We did not know what friends we had until we came to Leningrad” is some relatives of my wife’s I didn’t know about until I went to Leningrad, I thoought it was apposite.

Quote of the clip: “Troy fell, Leningrad did not fall”.
