Two Sides, Two Brides

Spread the love

Revised version 29/1/2025:

I.
First Adam took a wound at side
When rib was taken for First Eve.
New Adam, for His longed-for Bride,
From His side blood and water gave.
All down the shaft of Longin’s spear
Flowed that wherewith the Church is cleansed
Thus would the Second Eve appear,
Whom, from the first, God did intend.

II.
First Adam’s wound, a rib bestowed,
To make his destined bride’s abode.
Flesh of his flesh, bone of his bone,
Eve was his love, she was his own.
New Adam’s wounds, a blood-filled laver,
To wash New Eve, with God’s own mikvah.
These wounds our bread and wine betide
We are His Own, His Church, His Bride.

Older version:

First Adam took a wound at side
As rib was taken for First Eve,
So Second, for His longed-for Bride,
From His side blood and water gave.
Along the length of Longin’s spear
Flowed that wherewith the Church is cleansed
Which lets the Second Eve appear,
Which, from the first, God did intend.
