It’s very fortuitous that I should be uploading this right now. It happens to fall on a Sunday in my programming and was also originally made on a Sunday and is just the right thing for a Sunday, but all this would be but a minor coincidence. A far greater coincidence is that I had found my old Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch which was given to me by Detlef and Margot Loehde from the Selbstaendig Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche in Hannover who I also knew during the six months I spent in Germany as a brand new Christian 35 years ago in 1983
The Loehdes were one of the mainstays of the congregation and hosted a lovely Bibelkreis at their home, where I was on many occasions. I greatly enhoyed their company although we had some quite strong debates about the difference between Calvinism and Lutheranism. Matters which right now seem very secondary indeed but a new Christian doesn’t have the wisdom to know what is secondary, and maybe I was not as appreciative, or didn’t seem as appreciative of the Loehdes as I ought to have been, and remembering them many times over the years has taught me that.
Anyway, it happens that at the time I am placing this onto HTV, I have been working in the area of Hannover and one Sunday I managed to get over to the old Church and saw them again and was able finally to thank them and tell them that I never forgot their kindness, and like I say one of those kindnesses was the hymnbook they gave me, as well as the opportunity to learn many many wonderful German hymns, including the current one. It has seemed of late as if everything is coming together in my life in such a way that I can see God’s guiding hand even when I had no idea what I was doing and why, and even when I was straying from the right path GOd was never far away and was able to bring me back again.
