RL 102-11 Basic Russian Grammar lesson 11

YouTube Poster

Original playout date: 24 October 2007
Duration: 12:48

We continue with Dative constructions, used much more in Russian than in Western European languages. Everyone in the room, says Huli, gets kicked into the dative case and nobody is the subject of the sentence, therefore they are impersonal, and in Russian that’s much more idiomatic.

We round off with Andrey Gradsky’s “Kak molody my byli” in the Khvorostovsky arrangement.

Quote of the clip: Vhy are you feeling sad? You vere feeling merry yesterday, I feel sorry for you!
