Other remarks:

There is an unusual majestry about the crane, they fly very high and are rare, but it is a large and graceful bird and comes in flocks, not lone or in pairs or smaller groups like the storks. If you go in March to a farm in northern Poland, you have a chance to see the sight I record here, and it is worth the viewing,

Night time driving vlog going from Wloclawek to Warsaw – you see some but not much of the city of Plock. It is more really about me talking in order to break up a journey, and hopefully some people like it, although not many have, at least that’s more that I have any right to expect. You get to see some driving antics by locals.

Animals/plants featured: Roadside trees
Other remarks:

Stryków north of Łódż was for many years the point at which the A1 motorway closed, you had to come off and use back roads and usually the place got blocked with cars for that reason. They will be happy that since 2012 the motorway now goes past them and their lives have gone back to normal. This documents the time when Stryków was placed “on the map” for about 5 or 6 years while we all waited for the road to finish. The backroads I show, including the secret cut through I show here, are all still there but much nicer now as they are not oversubscribed any more.

Quote of the clip: “There were a lot of hedgehogs there when human beings first arrived in this place, and so they called it “the place of the hedgehogs”, or “Jeżów”, in Polish.”

We start off in the old town square and end up in Restauracja Ratuszowa, one of the nice traditional spots in Poznan, and the live music chimes up, so as is my wont, I immediately embarrass my friends and the pianist by singing along, heh heh heh.

Other remarks:

Chris Chadwick work with me for a while, and we had fun sometimes with German poetry because he was a proper intellectual. Very clever and not always easy to get along with. He’s not in Poland now and we are all the poorer for it.

Goethe’s poems are the order of the day here, with Erlkoenig recited by Christopher and Wanderers Nachthemd recited by me, all the time contending with the vagaries of modern, as it was then, technology, which we identify as the biggest problem poetry has, in that you cannot get to the end of a poem without the internet crashing (this was 2007) or a phone going off.
