Gruyeres

Original YT playout date: 12 July 2009
Duration: 52:12

This visit to Gruyeres starts with the “international” area of Geneva, the place where a number of the UN’s arms and other in my opinion rather questionable organisations all get together, spend our money and decide for us what is to become of us.

After that we see the Head Office of Nestle, the organisation controlling many of the most famous food brands and other sources in the world. From there we go to the medieval town of Gruyeres, to see the beautiful and richly historic castle, along with taking part in such Helvetic activities as alpine horn blowing, wooden cow milking, the hideous and brutal Giger Museum, a Tibetan museum (I didn’t go as I already had taken a big enough risk of being infected with unwholesomeness at the Giger Museum and I didn’t need the old Shangri-La idea as well), local Gruyere cheese and wine tasting and a great fondue meal to round it all off.

There is a gallery section showing photos I took around the castle, but I set it to Russian film music, as I didn’t have any Swiss castle music, and it seems to go with it as well as anything. I know my Russian learner viewers will enjoy that.

Huliganov sings Susan Boyle

Original YT playout date: 11 July 2009
Duration: 7:13

The bandy-wagon jump that somehow had to happen. Huliganov’s got big eyebrows too, he also sings songs and rolls his ‘r’s – why can’t Huliganov go viral too?

Please do whatever you can to help this go viral, even if it means sneezing on the computer screen.

Thanks.

Not the Alan Titchmarsh Show – with Bot Shots

Original YT playout date: 11 July 2009
Duration: 10:21

A rather interrupted look at my garden. I lost some of the stills I took for the end bit so I made them up with other bot (anical) shots I made earlier. The song is “Vecher na reyde”.

Prague Vlog #4 – Alphabet Man Golem

Original YT playout date: 11 July 2009
Duration: 1:08:53

“The result of walking in the wrong direction to where I thought I was going. This film contains some mistaken information, for which I blame imprecision in the guide book I bought: the Golem is not supposed to be resting in the place claimed in this film, but actually about 500m closer to the centre.

I encoded this at a higher level than I usually encode hour long films, and I hope it isn’t too slow coming through. If you do get what people in the industry call “”boofering””, then just press the paws button with one of your pause and go get an indeclinable coffee, or some tea with a soft semi-vowel stem, and it should be all right when you get back.

Featured in this film is the alphabet man sculpture outside the Rudolftherednosinum. If you should see on the current google satellite map the location of this, namely

geo:lat=50.08910985946328
geo:lon=14.415116608142852
(or, to make MsLoreley77 happy, that’s http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=50.089082,14.41505&spn=0.001583,0.004726&t=h&z=18 )

then you’ll probably just see a poor attempt at making a yin and yang sign from assorted greenery. This is because the scuplture is new – for the Czech presidency of the EU. How long it will remain after I do not know, but hopefully it will stand the test of time. After all, the Eye-full tower in Paris was only supposed to be up a while, and they still haven’t taken that down.

I’m not an expert on the Czech Republic as it is my new country, and so I’m grateful for any local people who would like to comment on the films. Any Prague based youtubers wishing to appear in one of my Prague films are also welcome to declare themselves.” Read the rest of this entry

Trip to Brno, see Spielberg and Jovovich

Original YT playout date: 8 July 2009
Duration: 37:22

Went to Brno, the “Austrian Manchester’. It is of course now not in Austria any more. It is generally regarded as the second city of the Czech Republic, and the capital of the region of Moravia.

Every youtuber aspires to be a budding Spielberg – but where does that name come from geographically? Possibly a number of places, but the most famous is this Habsburg political prison.

Not only Spielberg features in this film, but I also bumped into Milla Jovovich, as you will see, who kindly agreed to appear for my viewers.

Some scenes from time back in Poland

Original YT playout date: 28 June 2009
Duration: 17:02

In between the Prague vlogs, obviously I am back home in Poland. Here are a few scenes from Poland in May. They are mixed content, and include a further discussion of the goldlist methodology, of weather, and my usual trick of filming what I see, not all of it particularly pleasant, but we are, after all, sharing this planet with the girl who was sitting crying on the kerb next to her own vomit, and with the gentleman who was slapping his bitch near my house, who also got caught on camera. These people we share the planet with, and the scenes are real and not staged, as you can find on many channels on youtube, unfortunately! There is also joy and family pleasure among the grim reality, such as seeing a Portuguese student band in traditional garb in the tram as they were visiting Warsaw, Sophie’s birthday, and treating my wife to a fine meal of sushi. In short this is a mixed bag of everything.

A demo of the GoldList Method is included.
Includes Sophie’s 9th birthday party.

Prague Vlog #3 – Choosing a flat

Original YT playout date: 28 June 2009
Duration: 30:09

This is an account of the third week, and the highlights include flying in, and seeing Prague from the air, and then a couple of visits to flats. We see three flats, the last of them is the one I rented.

I couldn’t even remember these others I looked at but I am really happy about the choice I made and also the owner turned out to be a good renter. At the end we were both sad not to have been able to carry on. But that’s all four years later.
Nevertheless, you can see here the evidence in the 28th (27:55) minute that we agreed that the TV would stay, but he took it away and said that’s what we agreed. But in fact I was happy not to have one. He did give me a work table instead. And I did a lot of good work at that table instead of wasting time watching TV.
