This is a canalside walk in two parts (which are also parts 17 and 18 respectively of the larger series from our holiday in the UK in the summer of 2008).
Towards the end of this episode a quite remarkable natural drama plays out before our eyes whereby a seagull attacks a canalside heron and gets seen off by a crow. The inland birds sticking up for each other against an intruder from the coast? Hopefully you will enjoy this walk though some of the natural beauty that has emerged around the man-made canal, and also enjoy the background music selected for your listening pleasure.

An account from the first day of the second army of pilgrims from Warsaw heading out for the shrine of the Black Madonna, on the annual footsore migration of hundreds of thousands of people over a route of well over 200 km, many (such as Lord Moggy of lordmoggy channel featured here) subsisting on mere bread and water for nine days in their quest for fellowship and blessing.
I make a few comments about what I witnessed form a Protestant perspective, but I do mean the remarks in a kindly way, as at the end of the day atheists and islamists need to see Christians standing up and being counted, which is what these people are doing.
Also features in one part an attempt at Chaucer’s famous opening to the Canterbury Tales in the original Middle English. Some of my older viewers can tell me whether I got the pronunciation right or not.
I am actual posting it here on Huliganov.TV during pilgrimage time 11 years later. It goes to show that precisely 11 years ago I got down to below 120 kgs and right now I have a good chance of repeating that, having eaveraged 10 or more kgs more in the interim, sometimes even 20 kgs more.

This video is significant in a couple of ways. Firstly, it is the first video on this channel connected to the time I was part of a community of listeners to a talk radio channel called Playradio UK. It involved such established UK talk radio talent s Tommy Boyd, Mike Mendoza and James Whale, but also burgeoned new talent from the co-presenters, as well as developing creativity on the part of listeners who contributed to the shows, one of whom was me.

Some people swear by chicken broth as a cure-all. Certainly Jewish traditions make a lot of it, and from them also Polish cuisine makes a big deal out of rosol, as they call it. It is a useful pick-me-up while on a liquids only fast, and it is very useful to tide oneself over between meals as an alternative to tea or coffee.
For those eating chickens, the best chickens to use are older ones, like an old rooster who has served his days making hens happy and waking your neighbours up in the morning while you blithely sleep through it. He has tough meat and is unpalatable. His Chicken Kiev would be more of a Chicken Maydan, but boiled into broth he gives you more microelements than Mendeleyev himself wrote about in the song “On the road to Mendeleyev, where the flying fishes playev”.
The Mexican recipe for chicken soup is rumoured to start with the same four words as every recipe in the Mexican recipe book, accordingly to the old joke. If you don’t know what those four words are I will not ruin the tone here by mentioning them, but maybe someone will show their knowledge of the history of comedy by mentioning them in the comments section below. (Come on, I have to do something to encourage readership participation round here!)
There are in fact still two days to go to the end of September, but already it’s clear from the graph that with a result of 139 km for September so far I’ve beaten the January result of 135 km and won’t manage to beat the March record (the record month for this year – and of all time – although that only means since May 2011 when I got the pedometer) of 170 km. I prefer to save attempting that one for October – we’ll see how that goes. There were three better months in 2011 or between 150 and 165 km, so that makes this month the 5th best.
The graph comes from http://www.silvaconnect.se , which is the on-line tool for holding and displaying stats of the users of the Silvaconnect pedometers. The highest ones in their range have the possibility to synchronise via a computer to this website, and it’s a facility I greatly appreciate. One can also pit one’s performance against friends using the same pedometer.
The graph shows pretty clearly what happened to me in the summer – the months of July and August were my months of being ill. At the start, when I was already ill but maybe just bronchitis rather than full blown pneumonia, I was still walking, and so the first ten days of July had some walking, but much less than normal. The same for the last week of August.
As I was hoping, the level of health to which you get back after recovering from an illness is higher than the level achieved before, and so the result for September is higher than that for April or May or June. I’m hoping that I’ll beat all the records to date, in other words beat 170 and get past that white line you see on the graph which was supposed to be my target for average monthly performance this year, not record performance, but I’ll hold that target over for next year.
