The best definition I have been able to devise for myself for “eternity” (or “infinity” aka. “Ꚙ”) is “that which is outside the time and space creation in which we currently operate”.

Role of dark matter and energy in what is outside the current creation

It may be that what we call the dark matter and the dark energy which make up actually the majority of matter and energy of the universe but which doesn’t seem to act along the same set of rules as our “light matter” does, and for all we know may be working in its own time frame independent of our linearity of time, is where our souls exist with the body we have in this creation as effectively their avatar. You cannot find a cell in this body where the “I” actually is. And many cells of the body change out many times in the course of life. Hardly any cell is exempt from autophagy.

Nevertheless, the “I” remains the same, the consciousness that you are someone, that you have a sentient existence and an identity. You go by a name, which is not necessarily (almost certainly not) your real name you will carry in eternity when you find out who you are in the plan of God, but one that proves that you are you and not just part of an insentient mass.

Functional upgrading of the New Creation in physical terms

That’s why it doesn’t really matter what happens to your body, even if they enbalm and mummify it or make that Walt-Disney-head thing. Or if they atomise it into its components and blow it to every point of the compass. It can be reconstituted in perfection at the Resurrection, because that is an upgrade of matter a “new creation” which may be made of that same “dark matter” and “dark energy”.   But there are much greater functionalities with regard to its existence in that Creation’s equivalent of lines of time and space, which may be entirely different to ours to the point of not being subject to envisioning.

There could be dark matter and dark energy far, far beyond what we can even detect the possibility of which is that which is somehow associated with this universe. We have worked out that this universe is finite, but the dark matter and energy could be and probably is infinite  It is “dark” because it is outside the expression “let there be Light”.  Not that it necessarily has the properties we associate with darkness here, for God is the Light of it. .

Thus there is no end to it either in terms of time or space, except such as God may determine, hance we use the terms “eternity” and “infinity” almost interchangeably.

Then what we do in this training ground affects the outcome of this soul in that place.

The purpose of the current Creation

In this current set of dimensions which we experience, we have a Creation with a start and a finish. We are part of this Creation. Jesus Christ is both its alpha or beginner, Creator, Author, prime mover, and its Omega, its Ending, its plan and purpose. Humans are made in the image of Christ, and therefore in the image of God, although God is a spirit, ie inhabits that other realm as it were natively, Jesus Christ the Creator of this realm also inhabits it natively, this time literally natively as here He was, as planned from eternity, to have His nativity. My answer to a question on Quora “Is there any defensible reason to believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God?”

When you say “defensible”, if you mean by that something that can be answered for, then all faith is to a degree defensible as faith is its own defence. If you mean empirically proveable, as in something I can test by experiment, then the case is not strong. You get all kinds of arguments about how could Moses have known this or that, but in the end it comes down to what Jesus said “My sheep hear My voice”.

God has made a world in which in some places you might see ten thousand penguins on a beach but the right mother hears the voice of its own chick and the chick recognises its own mother. When you have read the Bible and heard in it the voice of God to your heart, then this is a stronger case for inspiration than worrying about how to understand this verse if it seems to contradict that verse, etc etc. The way that God speaks to YOU in the prayerful reading of the Bible, this is God’s word to you. In order to get a balanced view it is a good idea to read the whole Bible, which creates a complete and internally congruous view of the development of the idea of salvation, from the law given to one nation, via prophets, judges, then kings, and the continual failure of people to keep a law that reflected the holiness of God, if only at times symbolically, through to an actual physical incursion of the Creator into His own creation, becoming one of us, and then sacrificing Himself to pay the ransome for our sins, enable an exit route from sin into atonement, resurrection and eternal life. This is the message that the Bible has and it is not the message of any other book other than books based on it.

If this be the meaning of life – and I find no better meaning anywhere on Earth in anything else, and all other explanations of what this life is for do not ring true to me – then the place this is revealed is in Scripture and I believe and defend that the Bible is therefore the inspired word of God, authorative, and containing sufficient for me to know so that I can believe the essentials needed to believe in order to find myself covered by the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.

Who is a Catholic?

Given the selection of a new Pope, the Roman Catholic Church is much discussed in the media and on blogs. Here is a random comment I replied to today in one place. It is a comment I can partly assent to, but rather more needed to be said:

Anglicans ARE Catholic. In fact, many of us secretly believe we are more Catholic than the Romans, though we’re usually tactful enough to mention this to them. And of course, we are ALL, Roman and English, “under Christ” in an ultimate sense – the question at issue is merely the more mundane one of how exactly one goes about delegating Christ’s authority on a day-to-day level.

My response was as follows:

Every Christian is a Catholic except those who believe that their denomination has a monopoly. If we be looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our Faith, as it says, we will all be looking at the right direction, the right leader, who needs no vicar, the Way, the Truth and the Life.

The authority of Christ is not at this time a political one – the devil has the lease on the politics of this world and its nation states for now, so Churches in all cases should be separate from states.

“Ye are gods” – what does this mean?

I received from a good friend the following question:

I want to ask you about something, if you are healthy enough to answer. What does Psalm 82:6 mean? Of course, this is connected to John 10:34 as well. And on the same topic, who are the “sons of God” in Genesis and Job?

This topic may look like one topic, in a sense there is an element of being related, but in fact I would regard these as two separate issues. Let’s deal first with the issue of Psalm 82:6 and John 10:34.

Psalm 82 says the following:

82.1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty, he judgeth among the gods

At first glance, this looks not dissimilar to other passages, as you say in the start of Job is a good example, where God is talking among the angelic host. But see what he says in the next verse:

82.2  How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?

This puts an entirely different slant on it, as we see no cases of angels being given judgement of men. Instead, we are told that we shall judge angels (1 Cor 6.3). This certainly puts human judges on a higher line towards God almighty than the angels themselves, but surely that cannot mean any humans, this may be referring to the elect, or to people within the elect that had been given certain priviledges or responsibilities to represent God in the earth. Let’s see what further light we can find as we read on: Continue reading ““Ye are gods” – what does this mean?”
