Radio Gold with Tommy Boyd

Original YT playout date: 11 March 2009
Duration: 24:38

A discussion with the talkradio guru about a number of topics: driving in Poland, surfeits of lampreys (it was Henry I by the way – I got the Henry bit right) Henry the Eighth, and about meeting Lech Walesa and Lech Balcerowicz. The video of the evening I’m talking about with Tommy is coming up as the next video and that’s going to be my 750th video, as it is a very special video. It’s rare to see those two giants of Polish politics on the same platform.

The New Tommy Boyd Show 23rd September 2008

Original YT playout date: 27 December 2008
Duration: 3:58:02

Only the second in his new series, but unfortunately the last to be cammed. It was Stuart Heron that we have to thank for the cams, and unfortunately with the demise of his firm the cam server also went. Best of luck to you Stu and hope you like your new work.

That’s it then, with the cam feeds of radio I have, unless Playradio set cams up next year and want me to keep going. But we’ll find that out if and when it happens. For now, enjoy this great show, in which I don’t exactly come out glorious myself, but that’s the risk you take when you call a radio show – sometimes you look like a legend, and sometimes like a plonker. That’s all part of the fun. Enjoy.

The New Tommy Boyd Show 22nd September 2008

Original YT playout date: 24 December 2008
Duration: 3:56:49

There are but two of these, the first in the new series of Tommy Boyd starting on 22nd September. After that, the cams went off. This is the penultimate radio show I have to play out from http://www.Playradiouk.com . In the new year, if the cams come back and they want me to do more, there may be more, but I don’t know anything for sure about that yet. As it is, enjoy this fantastic show and then the last show from the 23rd September, which I plan to upload between Christmas and New Year.

This particular show caused no end of controversy, as Tommy revealed it was indeed his own decision to allow the skype chats associated with the show to be “privatised”.

In the first half hour Seismorg bravely takes on Tommy about this decision, and gets told that he doesn’t have a right to his opinion. That’s what Seismorg thought Tommy said, although regular listeners will know that Tommy has an a priori view that people do not, per se, have a right to hold opinions unless they have put the work in to research them. but Seismorg took it personally, and after this was never to be heard on PlayRadio again. I hope that listening back people will see that no disrespect to him was intended, and somehow persuade him of this, as his input in shows is sorely missed.

Tommy Boyd Show from 19th August 2008 on Playradio UK

Original YT playout date: 27 September 2008
Duration: 4:01:01

“Here Tommy was standing in for James Whale and he gives at the end some broad hint that he may be returning for more shows in the future.

Well, by now of course we know the whole story – he came back but PRUK went belly up anyway. Which was a big pity. But I’m telling you the plot!

Don’t miss the interesting chat between Tom and Viktor Huliganov near the start of the show.”

Historical NTTBS (#10 – 16th March 2008)

Original YT playout date: 19 August 2008
Duration: 3:01:34

“This is the last of a series of ten historical Not The Tommy Boyd Shows which started when the previous you tubing video editor decided not to keep up his excellent work on the Sunday night show in view, I assume, of Tommy’s leaving. Well, this series spans 10 shows between that 16th December show and the 16th March show.

The ones after this one are on here not as “”historical”” because they are mainly up within a week or so of happening. You can find them all by going back through the videos on this channel and looking at the upload dates for the shows from the 23rd onwards, and also in due course I will be threading them all together into a playlist from 16th December one up to date.” Read the rest of this entry

The Tommy Boyd Show 15th July 2008

Original YT playout date: 6 August 2008
Duration: 3:59:06

Tommy himself stands in for James Whale and gives a tremendous show. Unfortunately this is blocked worldwide for the fact that various pieces of music are also used. Maybe I will make some selected clips from it some time in the future without the music. Thankfully I can still access it.

The Mystery of Gothic and why I left How-To-Learn-Any-Language.com

Guido Westerwelle

Guido Westerwelle - a politician whose remarks are only to be discussed in abtraction from politics, on how-to-learn-any-language.com!

I am repeating here a few comments I made about the Gothic Language on How-To-Learn-Any-Language forum some time back. As I am now not posting there owing to their heavy-handed moderation policy ( I was censured for discussing politics in a thread about why a certain German politician – Guido Westerwelle the Foreign Minister no less, refused to speak German at an international press conference because it happened to be held in Germany.

I am looking forward to the Eurovision Song Contest this year – instead of being done in French and English as per the tradition, as Lena won it for Germany last year (with a song that has not even been given any lyrics in German and is sung in Essex English by someone trying to impersonate Lily Allen but who is at any rate a good deal hotter than Lily, and that of course is what the Eurovision is all about these days…) it will have to be held entirely in German to appease Westerwelle’s nationalist complexes!

Anyway, it was for taking an anti-Westerwelle line that I got censured in HTLAL. I warned that if moderated I would simply leave and stop contributing and at that the moderator called my bluff and pulled the whole thread! In case anyone thinks that it means that I am spitting my dummy out and walking away like a big kid, let me explain the following points:

1. I have very limited time to post and type on the internet. Thankfully I have the pleasure and privilege of a small following of people who like to read my things or watch or listen to my multimedia outputs, and so I have the impetus always to continue. Even on How-To-Learn-Any-Language.com I enjoyed the privelege of popularity – not that many posters have received over 1,5 times the votes compared to the posts they have made. Many people have more than the 139 votes I received, but these are folk who usually have hundreds of posts and not just 87.  If it were not for the fact that I know many people like to follow what I do, at some times of year it would all stop as I get just too busy.
