This video is significant in a couple of ways. Firstly, it is the first video on this channel connected to the time I was part of a community of listeners to a talk radio channel called Playradio UK. It involved such established UK talk radio talent s Tommy Boyd, Mike Mendoza and James Whale, but also burgeoned new talent from the co-presenters, as well as developing creativity on the part of listeners who contributed to the shows, one of whom was me.
This video is self-explanatory. Coming up you will see the whole of the “Not The Tommy Boyd Show” Sunday Night 3 hour show from the time Tommy himself was not involved, as well as a series of other shows. These shows, in addition to being podcasted in the usual way (and I am not sure where the podcasts for these are now) started to be accompanied by a live skype feed, often feeds from two live webcams in the studio. A volunteer was requested to put the feeds together and put them up on YT after someone did one of these experimentally and showed what could be done.
I was the volunteer, and got the access and the permission to show these shows and very soon on this channel they will start to become a major constituent of the mix.
Unfortunately Playradio UK is no more, having got into financial difficulties, but it was a very worthy foray into experimental talk radio, and I consider it a privilege to have been involved in it and to be able to host these video radio archives on my channel and therefore also on this blog. It marks a change in the nature of the channel away from purely own content into a mix of own and third-party content.
This particular piece is put up intended for use on the radio show, and the radio shows themselves will start to show five videos from now.
