Holiday in Alsace #12/12 – The journey home

Original playout date: 8 December 2007
Duration: 13:17

Yes, we’ve reached the 12th and final part of the Alsace holiday saga, and I hope that you enjoy the road trip shots, the rare photo of my wife as a 19 year old, the impromptu Borat impersonation and the music of the UK Mr Big (NB not the same as the US group of the same name) and the full version of the song which has started each episode of this series, namely “Ne me quitte pas” by Brel, a song that launched many translations such as Shirley Bassey’s “if you go away” in the 1950s but none of them come in my opinion anywhere near the original, which must be in the top ten French language songs of all time.

Zajazd Leśny is actually not so easy to find these days as you have to come off a motorway and go by a circuitous route, but I recently was in the vicinity and can say it seems to be still operative in 2018, while most of the other old-road-dependent businesses.
Very interesting is how a photo of Elena ten years earlier in the same space (the trophies on the wall were arranged differently and my wife was in her “Marilyn” phase, but it’s the same lady) appears after 4:30 into the film. It would be interesting to do one this year and compare 1997, 2007 and 2018, we’ll have to see if I can get her in there now.
