Easter Sunday weigh in

Original playout date: 26 March 2008
Duration: 2:20

Although this video is essentially ephemeral in nature, my weight on a particular day, it does mark two important new things going on in my life in March 2008. It was my first serious weight-loss drive for years and the beginning of a drive for health with which I aimed to take part in the Warsaw Marathon six months down the line from now. You’ll see in due course what happened with that.

At the start of my health drive, which was back in the previous July, I had been 138.6 kgs, just short of 140, and by this time I had already got down to 126.3 at the start of the weightloss challenge on Playradio, and six weeks later I made it down to 124 kg. By September I was at 116 kg and then it started to go back up again, and of course one day I saw I was back only at 140 kg, the one inmportant difference being that I was a lot more physically active, so more of that weight was, proportionately, muscle than it had been in Summer 2007, probably my unhealthiest position ever.

The other thing here is Playradio UK, which was a great hobby while it lasted for me and many other members of the listening community with a number of whom we made good friendships. This weighloss challenge was among those in the community who wanted to lose a few kilos and it was won by Jason’s character with his “guween dwinks”, but who of course has faked the whole thing. But it was a great laugh. Soon you will see the shows all appearing on my channel.

Cobra Cobra, mend my show!

Original playout date: 22 March 2008
Duration: 1:32

“There’s a fine nursery rhyme called “”cobbler cobbler””. The idea to mix this up with “”cobra, cobra”” came from my daughter Sophie when we were watching this clip of the snake, which is certainly doing the rounds here on YouTube. From what I can make out they must have milked the snake’s venom dry and also (from the way it is simply slapping with its chin when it strikes) taped the mouth shut with clear sticky tape.

I don’t really approve of the use of snakes in this form of entertainment, by the way – I’m just mining some humour out of the juxtaposition.”
