Original YT playout date: 15 February 2009
Duration: 52:08
Here’s an interesting one. The original video length is 52 minutes and 8 seconds. I did use back then various pieces of music in the mistaken belief that I was doing labels a favour by introducing them via my films to a new set of people. In most cases this has been reason to take all the ad revenues and share them among the music providers with nothing left for me, as though there was nothing in the video other than their music. I have never seen the logic of this, but it is not the main problem.
A worse issue is when someone thinks that they should block the video because their song is more important even than all the other songs in the video and so in this video there are four songs and three of them were happy to take my revenues, while the fourth, Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac, decided that, even though they were so late in a fifty minute not very inspired video that very few people were likely to watch that long anyway (a theory borne out in full by the statistics page) nonetheless nobody was going to get paid, and nobody was going to watch it, as their song is more important not only than the other songs here and my commentary but also than the images of Wroclaw at a time when not so many people were filming, and may have things in it which are now irretrievable.
Thankfully, of late there is a new remedy to this, namely to “trim out segment”. I have no idea if this will work and what the outcome of it will be, but if it works properly, at least you will be able to see the video.
UPDATE: Yes, indeed! Looks like it actually works. That’s a turnip for the books.
