La Voix

“Move over, Malena Ernman! Little eight-year old Sophie is gonna re-set the whole standard for the singing of La Voix, the Swedish entry to this year’s Eurovision song contest. I thought this was the best entry, although I have to give kudos to Alexandr Rybak who wrote and performed his own winning entry for Norway, despite actually being Belarussian.

No more “”Norvege, nul points”” this year. Rybak’s entry had an record breaking score (helped no doubt by the fact that there are now 42 voting countries, not just 18 or so like when ah were a lad). Still, I was sorry to see Sweden’s siren only about half way down the scoreboard when all 42 countries had given their verdicts.

Another piece wot I wrote

Original YT playout date: 26 April 2009
Duration: 3:59

This one has words, but either the words aren’t very good, or I wasn’t comfortable singing and playing at the same time, or both. In any event, interested in your feedback for this theme.

To You, Who Soar on Eagle’s Wing – original Song for my wife

Original YT playout date: 13 April 2009
Duration: 1:29

To my wife, who is like an angel in human form, I wrote the present song (words and melody) in 2002 in Moscow.

I wasn’t able to play it very well, and I am still not very good at performing it – maybe some musicians out there can help me do a proper rendering of this composition? There are two verses here, but the whole poem was four verses long, and I cannot remember all of it. The chords given below are what they should be – the piano here is obviously not in that key, even before I chipmunked it!

1. To (C)you, who (G)soar on (a)eagle’s (e)wing

A(a)bove all (C)other (e)women,

To (a)you al(e)one this (a)song I (C)sing

My (a)heart with (G)love a-(e)brimmin'(E)

To (a)you al(e)one this (a)song I (C7)sing

My (F)heart with (G7)love a-(C)brimmin'(G)

2. The mountain lake and forest fringe

Are fair enough to view

But far beyond their beauty’s range

I hold the look of you

I cannot recall the third verse, which related to the sound and scent of her, but the fourth verse logically follows:

4. Because my senses you full fill

Good sense it seems to make

That I should love and love you still

And never you forsake.

And that’s exactly what I’ve done!
