Yes, we’ve reached the 12th and final part of the Alsace holiday saga, and I hope that you enjoy the road trip shots, the rare photo of my wife as a 19 year old, the impromptu Borat impersonation and the music of the UK Mr Big (NB not the same as the US group of the same name) and the full version of the song which has started each episode of this series, namely “Ne me quitte pas” by Brel, a song that launched many translations such as Shirley Bassey’s “if you go away” in the 1950s but none of them come in my opinion anywhere near the original, which must be in the top ten French language songs of all time. This was, had been, a delightful rendition of “you raise me up” sang with my wife joining in the end. Unfortunately Mr Groban’s label are a bunch of money-groban pigs who grobbed the audio track. I replaced it with something because I was forced to, but of course it is not the same, and people are grabbing the ad money for that one now anyway, which was not what was promised at the time. I got done many times with the ridiculous rigmarole around music, even buying commercial music with licenses didn’t help and even composing my own was no guarantee, it is nuts, I’m telling you.
