Now that a number of countries which pretended to be leading democracies have let the mask slip, to use an apposite metaphor, and have crossed a line we didn’t expect to see crossed in our times, it is time for us to stop dithering and hit big government where it hurts. Taxpayer strike. Aka Defund the Government. The comraderie to be seen in these convoys goes to show that we get along a whole lot better without Big Brother breathing down our necks. We don’t need Galt’s Gulch. Let Homo fiscus go and hide in the rockies if they want to. There’s more of us than them and we finance every public worker’s take-home pay.

I am not paying them to waste my time, so I will just cancel my subscription. I have developed a zero-tolerance policy for censorship. If my views are not acceptable to them, then so should my money be.

  1. Seems that very many western “democracies” for their part have adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards free speech. Particularly in U.K. (United Kingdom ! now there’s a misnomer for you ) where the nannying politicians like to “protect” politico-religious groups from getting any criticism that might hurt the poor darlings. As I have said a few times in response to HTV posts I believe that in a healthy society any individual can state their views on any subject if they feel so inclined and other members of society are free to agree or disagree or ignore the views they hear or see. Simple as that. Once a society starts censorship of free speech it is only a short step to dictatorship. Open views, openly expressed and debated are the only protection against this. Unfortunately this might involve certain people being upset by what they see or hear. However, they might be more upset by the results of the suppression of opinions.

    1. Exactly. Trudeau is actually coming out as very weak, especially with regard to his charactor, which is, as Heraclites said, his destiny.

He is the black-faced sheep of what may have been a nobler family. Once. But his mother coming into the schoolyard now to stick up for him on social media has not exactly helped his case for looking like the strong man.

Jordan Peterson has been pep-talking the conservative side to seize the day, and if they cannot rise to an occasion like this to regain the initiative then there is no hope for them, and none for Canada.

In the meantime I was inspired to re-write the lyrics to a popular song by the group Ottawa, which seems apposite:

      “T-R-U-D-Eau
      T-R-U-D-Eau
      He is T – tyrannical
      He is R – repressive
      He is U – undemocratic
      He is D – diabolical
      He is Eau-oh!-ohhh!!”
